In January, it’s a whole new ballgame
- The first time I stepped on a football field in January I had no idea what I was walking into. I was a wide-eyed rookie in St. Louis; a year after the Rams had won the Super Bowl. I thought it would be like any other Sunday, just another game.
Separating the ‘guy’ from the backup QB
- The backup quarterback in the NFL is every sports fan’s dream. Everyone at the local bar talks about it, because, to them, it looks easy. Wear a ball cap, hold a clipboard, scribble down some notes, and collect your check on Tuesday.

- I don’t know if the Redskins are going to be playing football after the New Year, but if they are, you can bet Clinton Portis will have his hands, or legs all over it.

Measure this organization by its passion
- I tried to imagine myself in the shoes of Redskins players this past Sunday. I tried to visualize what was going through their minds, when my own emotions got the best of me. How could anyone in their right minds expect these guys to come out and play at the high level that is required to compete in this league? It couldn’t be done, but in reality, it had to be done. Less than a week after the death of Sean Taylor, this group of guys played with pride, heart, and determination against the Buffalo Bills.
Taylor’s death magnifies life
- I remember when I met Sean Taylor for the first time. He was fresh out of college and had the physical tools and strength of a grown man. But he was nothing like I expected. He was quiet, even shy, but eventually he let his teammates in, revealing what type of man he really was.
Redskins will receive boost from Fletcher
- In 2005, back when I still played for the Redskins, we were 5-6 and fighting for our lives. Ray Brown called a players only meeting, words were said, and issues were put out into the open. Suddenly, we started playing Redskin football again. Five in a row and the playoff checks started rolling in. I like to think this year will be no different. This group of Redskins has too much pride to let a good start, and a season for that matter, slip away.
Eagles made the moves, Westbrook made them count
- I have always believed Philadelphia’s Brian Westbrook is an exceptional football player, however, I am now convinced he is quite possibly the most underrated player in the National Football League.
