1 day ago- W hat a rotten piece of work this Myanmar junta is. It jails, tortures and murders its political opponents, makes children soldiers, sits happily by while troops rape women, and now on top of these evils and more, it does this new thing, this almost unbelievable thing, this abetting of a monstrous cyclone through hampering aid to its victims.
8 days ago- We got a Barack Obama growl on NBC’s “Meet the Press” this past weekend. It was on the subject of suspending the federal gas tax for the summer months. John McCain had the idea, and pretty soon Hillary Clinton had it, too, and Obama wanted the audience to know what a fraud it was, although he left something out.

29 days ago- Barack Obama has recently provided us with some interesting insights into his character (he doesn't keep his word), his regard for certain Americans (they are easily fooled when their fortunes are down) and his own willingness to do the fooling (on trade, for instance, or CEO salaries).

43 days ago- In a kind of intellectual parlor game, the journalist Joe Klein has toyed with the idea of how Al Gore could save the Democrats from a conceivable calamity in the making, one in which either Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama would face defeat as the party’s presidential nominee.
50 days ago- China, gradually emerging as a superpower, was in a braggadocio mood when it successfully sought to host the Olympics this August. It was a way of saying, “Come experience us, admire us, give us a standing ovation.”
