Bay waters could soothe wintertime chills
The near-constant temperatures in San Francisco Bay and in its soil would be used to heat and cool new homes in planned mega-developments under separate energy-saving strategies being assessed.
Ferry parking’s watery grave
The Ferry Building’s main parking lot, 70-year-old Pier ½, is tilting into the Bay. Its wood pilings are rotting and the foundation is riddled with cracks. The Port of San Francisco shut down the 100-car lot parking pier at the north end of the Ferry Building on July 3 as an imminent hazard.
Commuters ready to launch
Plans are afloat to construct two new ferry launches on San Francisco’s waterfront, part of a plan to spin a web of ferry routes throughout the Bay.
Port of S.F. to be fortified with cameras
Say “cheese” the next time you visit The City’s waterfront — you may be caught on camera. Monday is the last day of the crabbing season in California — a date that usually passes with little fanfare because fishers have long since abandoned their crab pots and taken up their steel salmon lines. |
