A trio of unusual exhibits
Randy Shull's “Crossing Boundaries,” now at the San Francisco Museum of Craft+Design, is a rich retrospective for an artist whose work ranges from bright, original furniture to small but powerful objects fashioned of wood and building material. Although John Mellencamp was recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the veteran doesn't consider himself a rocker - at least not anymore.
Art moves from Baghdad to Baltimore
When Najwa Al-Amin was a child, she often traveled alongside her father, an Iraqi poet, to Egypt, Morocco, Lebanon and United Arab Emirates. Her late father became one of her mentors and introduced her to art and literature. Now living in the Baltimore area, Al-Amin brings her oil paintings to Gallery 211 on 211 East Fort Ave. in Baltimore.
Medicare rolls out bid system to save on equipment
Medicare expects to eventually save $1 billion a year by changing the way it pays for wheelchairs, oxygen tanks and other equipment, but suppliers say the new system could force thousands of businesses to close.
Correction: Picasso show in Abu Dhabi
In a May 27 story on a Picasso retrospective opening in Abu Dhabi, The Associated Press erroneously reported the name of the organizer. It was the Picasso Museum in Paris, not the Reina Sofia art museum. The story also erroneously reported that local sponsors contributed some works. The Picasso Museum contributed all the works that appeared in the show. |
