Dickey: Giants waited too long to deal
July traditionally is the month that separates the pretenders from the contenders in baseball, as it has been for the Giants this season. Because his team was playing in the pathetic NL West, general manager Brian Sabean deluded himself into thinking that the Giants had a shot at the postseason. When they had to play nine games against top teams from the East and Central, eight of which the Giants lost, that dream was shattered.
Liotta: Time for Giants to go young
With the 2008 All-Star Game tucked safely into the history books, the Giants officially go back on the clock in their quest to rebuild the club into a championship contender.  Tatis, Mets top Giants for 6th straight winFernando Tatis turned this into an extra special win for the New York Mets. Tatis homered, doubled twice and drove in four runs and the surging Mets won their sixth straight game Thursday, beating the San Francisco Giants 7-3.
Dickey: Giants are better off planning for future now
As major league baseball approaches the All-Star Game, reality is setting in. Even in their pathetically weak division, the Giants are not serious contenders, closer to last place than first. The emphasis should still be on developing a team that can be a contender in the near future.
Liotta: The end or beginning for Giants?
A little more than half a season in the Giants’ 2008 bank and I think it is worth posing this question: Are we watching the leftover year from the Barry Bonds era or the inaugural year of next era of Giants baseball?
