With any luck, we in the black community are beginning to see the end of the mainstream media’s tired old habit of designating Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson as the leaders and spokespersons for issues of concern to our community. For far too long, these two “media junkies” have used our issues and concerns mostly for their own self-promotion. The two of them, with all of their contradictions and moral baggage, have for far too long been allowed to marginalize and diminish legitimate concerns of black folk.
