Will anti-tobacco fanatics ever be satisfied? Their strategy of piecemeal prohibition has driven smokers from jobs, bars, clubs, restaurants, cafes, parks and bus stops. Now they threaten to harrass smokers in drugstores, tobacco shops, housing and on sidewalks.
Opposition growing against proposed Potrero power plant
A controversial plan to build a new natural gas-burning power plant at Potrero Hill to replace a more polluting plant in the same area is slated to go before a Board of Supervisors subcommittee on Monday.
Landlords leaving the business
Writer Joe Mac makes a good point (“Landlords have assets,” The Examiner, April 12-13) when he suggests if rent control forces a landlord to lose money the landlord should get out of the business. In fact, Supervisor Aaron Peskin says the same thing. Concerned about the loss in rental stock from conversions to TIC’s and hoping to stop it, he called a meeting in North Beach to call for ideas.
