A large blaze gutted part of a meatpacking plant south of Milwaukee on Monday and prompted authorities to warn thousands of area residents to temporarily evacuate because of the possibility of an ammonia explosion.More than 130 firefighters poured millions of gallons of water on the sprawling Patrick Cudahy Inc. plant in Cudahy, a suburb of about 18,000 residents seven miles south of downtown Milwaukee. The fire started Sunday night between the sprinkler system and the roof, Fire Chief Dan Mayer said.
MILWAUKEEBody found near where UWM student last seen
Milwaukee police report that the body of a 21-year-old man has been found in the Milwaukee River in the same area where a missing college student from New London was last seen.Police spokeswoman Anne E. Schwarz said in an e-mail that there was no sign of foul play. The body was recovered Monday at 12:05 p.m. No other information was released.

Federal environmental officials have agreed to let a Wisconsin tribe set its own water quality standards.The Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa will set quality standards for state discharge permits issued for on-reservation facilities such as sewage plants. The state must follow the tribe's standards when it issues permits to facilities upstream of the reservation, since any discharges would flow onto the reservation.
