Two-time Oscar-nominated actor James Woods has sued a Rhode Island hospital over the 2006 death of his younger brother.Woods on Friday would not discuss the lawsuit in detail, but told The Associated Press he wants "justice" for his brother, Michael, who was 49 when he died at Kent Hospital in Warwick of what was believed to be a heart attack.

The former executive director of a Rhode Island environmental group has been chosen to lead the regional office of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.President Barack Obama selected Curt Spalding, former leader of Save the Bay, to be New England's top environmental official. Between the private beach and butler service, a new resort on Rhode Island's shore promises to be among New England's most luxurious when it opens in June.The original Ocean House was a post-Civil War resort destination for the rich. The 1916 silent movie "American Aristocracy" with Douglas Fairbanks was filmed at the towering Victorian hotel, known for its yellow facade and striking ocean views. But the 135-year old hotel, in need of extensive repairs and upgrades, was closed in 2003 and razed.

Rhode Island will allow a struggling slot parlor in Lincoln to offer gambling around-the-clock.Twin River spokeswoman Patti Doyle said Wednesday that the facility hasn't decided when its schedule will change. State Lottery Director Gerald Aubin authorized the expanded hours earlier this week.

The unemployment rate in Rhode Island will continue climbing and peak at 13.8 percent next year even as layoffs taper off, an economist told state budget officials Wednesday.Unemployment stood at 13 percent in September but will keep rising then crest sometime between April and June, said Andres Carbacho-Burgos, an economist for Moody's Economy.com. Afterward, unemployment will start receding but remain in double-digit territory into 2012.
PROVIDENCERI panel nixes complaint against attorney general
Rhode Island's Ethics Commission dismissed a complaint Tuesday that accused Attorney General Patrick Lynch of improperly accepting a $428 plane ticket to a New Orleans conference.The complaint from Giovanni Cicione, chairman of the state Republican Party, accused the attorney general, a Democrat, of violating the $75 limit on gifts by accepting the plane ticket last year. The commission accepted the recommendation of one of its staff lawyers in voting 4-0 to reject the complaint.
