Monsanto Co. is installing a water management system at an Idaho phosphate mine the company depends on to make its Roundup weedkiller to stop the leakage of selenium and heavy metals into a tributary of the Blackfoot River.The company hopes capturing runoff and underground water will remedy problems at the waste rock dump below its South Rasmussen Ridge Mine that have resulted in Clean Water Act violation notices from the federal Environmental Protection Agency.

Idaho's Medicaid Division is getting nearly $115,000 as its share from a nationwide settlement with French drug giant Sanofi-Aventis.Attorney General Lawrence Wasden said Thursday the settlement resolves allegations that the company's Aventis Pharmaceutical unit knowingly misreported the lowest prices for three nasal sprays, Azmacort, Nasacort and Nasacort AQ.

Idaho agreed Tuesday to pay $50,000 and pledged to follow anti-discrimination rules to settle a federal lawsuit against state officials who awarded grazing leases to ranchers, not the environmentalist who had offered more money.The Idaho Board of Land has also committed to revising its rules to allow conservation groups to lease state endowment trust lands, a big change after years of fierce litigation. The board's five members are the governor, state controller, secretary of state, attorney general and superintendent of public instruction.

The boy was at his home near Driggs, just west of the Idaho-Wyoming border, with his younger sisters last Wednesday when the bear showed up. The youngster said he couldn't shoo it away, so he went and got his gun and shot it.Black bears in the area have prompted multiple complaint calls, largely because they've been hanging around a transfer station.
