PORT RICHEYCoast Guard ends search for plane crash survivors
The Coast Guard ended its search Thursday for five people aboard a small plane that crashed off Florida's Gulf Coast, saying it believes all are dead.The search ended 24 hours after the Coast Guard began looking for a twin-engine Cessna that dropped off the radar en route to Tampa on Wednesday afternoon. Rescuers had searched throughout the night for survivors, finding human remains among a two-mile debris field. Petty Officer Rob Simpson described it as a "fairly catastrophic wreck."

The Florida Supreme Court on Thursday threw out the conviction and death sentence in a 1994 Broward County robbery-slaying, meaning the defendant will go free.The justices ruled that evidence presented at the trial of Herman Lindsey was legally insufficient to support his conviction and that the case was totally based on circumstantial evidence.

The guardian of a Guatemalan man with serious brain damage is suing a South Florida hospital, alleging that the facility illegally deported the uninsured patient to his native country after he racked up more than $2 million in medical bills.The hospital says Luis Alberto Jimenez, an illegal immigrant who suffered severe brain trauma after a February 2000 accident caused by a drunk driver, repeatedly said he wanted to go home to Guatemala. The guardian says Jimenez objected to being sent back.
