The Defense Department said Tuesday the ceiling on a Navy contract with Harris Corp.'s RF Communications Division has been increased by $311.4 million to $897.9 million.The contract is for radios for soldiers, as well as support systems. The ordering period still ends Feb. 10.

The Defense Department said Tuesday that General Electric has been awarded a contract worth up to $160.4 million to repair and replace T700 engines on some Navy helicopters.The engines are on the Navy's H-60 helicopter and AH-1W attack helicopter. The contract includes a 33-month base period worth $85.7 million and two one-year options. The total value including the options would be $160.4 million.

The Defense Department announced Tuesday that it is awarding a $171.2 million Air Force contract to Raytheon Missile Systems Co. for 500 AGM-65 infrared-guided Maverick air-to-surface missiles.The order includes 200 AGM-65D Maverick missiles, 300 AGM-65G missiles, four AGM-65D guidance and control sections and eight AGM-65G guidance and control sections.

Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner said Tuesday the Obama administration is confident it will prevent a repeat of last year's financial crisis, the worst to hit the country in seven decades."We are not going to have a second wave of financial crisis," Geithner said in an interview with National Public Radio. "We cannot afford to let the country live again with a risk that we are going to have another series of events like we had last year. That is not something that is acceptable."
