Family of boy taped to bench settles lawsuit
- The attorney for the family of a teenager whose wrestling coach taped him to a weightlifting bench for more than an hour says the lawsuit against the teacher has been settled.Attorney Pete Ramirez says coach Jon Penfold will pay for part of the settlement and the school district's insurance will pay a part for Dave Croissant, another wrestling coach who stood by while the taping happened two years ago. - Democrats Joan Fitz-Gerald and Jared Polis earned enough votes to get on the August primary ballot to replace Colorado congressman Mark Udall.Former state Sen. Joan Fitz-Gerald will have the top line on the ballot over Polis after getting 60.1 percent of the vote at the 2nd Congressional District Assembly and Convention Saturday. - Two women were wounded outside a bar when they were caught in the middle of a shootout.Aurora police Detective Shannon Lucy says one woman's condition is serious and the other is stable after the shooting early Saturday. Lucy says the women were not involved in the dispute that sparked the shooting. She says they were waiting in a car for their friends when the two gunmen started shooting. - Nearly 150 years after gold was discovered in Boulder County along Gold Run Creek, a couple of old mines are slowly cranking back into operation now that excavating the slender veins of precious metal is profitable again.The Cash Mine in Gold Hill is about to wrap up its first year of operation after four decades of sitting idle, and miners may be swinging picks in the Cross Mine west of Nederland as early as this fall. Both mines were originally established in 1872. Somalis resettle into new life in Greeley, Colo.

- El Paso County officials are looking at selling park land, including regional parks, to raise money because revenues are coming in below expectations.El Paso County boasts on its Web page that it "provides some of the best parks in the Pikes Peak region." - A woman abducted from a Target parking lot by a man who hit her head with a brick, bound her with tape and threw her in the back of her car used a cell phone to alert police.Police rescued the woman and arrested 41-year-old Timothy Clapp Saturday shortly after the woman called 911 at about 1:07 p.m. Police said Clapp and the woman did not know each other. - A Denver middle school principal no longer faces a charge for allegedly failing to report allegations of abuse for an incident in a classroom.A judge on Friday ruled that 37-year-old Nicole Veltze did not act willfully or wantonly to thwart the law.
