A 3-year-old Arizona boy helped his 1-year-old sister escape Friday from a house fire that killed their mother and injured two other adults, authorities said.Fire crews responding to the fire in the Pinal County community of Maricopa south of Phoenix found the mother, 22-year-old Michelle Mariano, lying just a couple of feet from the mobile home's doorway, said sheriff's spokeswoman Lt. Tamatha Villar.

The parents of an 8-year-old Liberian girl who was allegedly raped by four boys have been arrested on felony child abuse charges.The girl's 59-year-old father and 47-year-old mother each face eight counts for a series of abuse and neglect incidents dating back to 2005. The Associated Press is not naming the parents to avoid identifying their daughter, who police say is a rape victim.

The publisher of the East Valley Tribune in the Phoenix suburb of Mesa said Friday that a buyer has made an offer that would keep the paper and its Web site in business.Publisher Julie Moreno told Tribune staffers that Irvine, Calif.-based Freedom Communications received a letter of intent to purchase the paper, which Freedom planned to close on Dec. 31. Moreno said she understands the buyer's intent is to continue publishing and keep a substantial number of the 140 employees.

Australia's Peter Senior won the Champions Tour National Qualifying Tournament on Friday, shooting a 5-under 66 for a three-stroke victory over Joe Ozaki, Steve Haskins and Ronnie Black.Senior, the winner of 18 tournaments in his home country, three events in Japan and four more on the PGA European Tour, had a 17-under 266 total on TPC Scottsdale's Champions Course. The top five finishers earned full exemptions for the 2010 season, while Nos. 6-12 received conditional exemptions. Senior also earned $30,000.

FLAGSTAFF6 arrested in Forest Lakes-area burglaries
Six people have been arrested in connection with a string of burglaries in the Forest Lakes area in Coconino County.The Coconino County Sheriff's Office said three homes were burglarized between September and early November.
