The most common cause of sudden death is hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. While it is true that the risk for sudden death increases with age, this fact is not a reason to avoid exercise. The Amercian College of Sports Medicine supports that "the absolute risk during any given episode of vigorous exercise [is] very low with only one sudden death occurring for every 1.51 million episodes of exercise."
