Past floods cause county to raise Huntington flood plain
- Fairfax County has raised the flood plain elevation in Huntington, the latest policy change to emerge from devastating floods last summer that swamped scores of homes in the community.
Sediment worsened flooding
- The intensity of flooding in Huntington this summer was not anticipated because Fairfax County and Federal Emergency Management Agency were using floodplain information that was three decades old, according to a report issued Thursday by the Army Corps of Engineers.
Fairfax to weigh flood protections for Huntington
- Fairfax County on Monday agreed to examine a bundle of potential flood protections for Huntington, where neighborhoods were overtaken this summer by swells from nearby Cameron Run.
Incomes too high for low-interest loans, but flood aid is on the way
- The income of some homeowners in Arlington Terrace, among the areas hardest hit in the late June flooding, excludes them from low-interest loans.
