Power plant's modification work stopped
Maria Hegstad, The Examiner Sep 14, 2007 11:09 AM (807 days ago)WASHINGTON A state regulatory board ordered a halt to controversial construction at the Mirant Corporation's power plant in Alexandria Thursday night. Mirant wants to merge some of the five smokestacks at its coal-fired plant, forcing the emissions out of just two stacks. The move will help the environment, Mirant officials assert, because the emissions will move faster, shoot higher into the air and disperse better.
