Charles Hurt, The Examiner Apr 9, 2007 7:18 AM (969 days ago)WASHINGTON As Senate Republican leader, Mitch McConnell has plenty of clout in his own right, but he benefits from the multiplier effect of representing half of a “power couple.” He and his wife, Labor Secretary Elaine Chao, may not be as venerable as Bob and Elizabeth Dole, as hip as James Carville and Mary Matalin or as jet-setting as Joe and Valerie Wilson, but no other pair connects one end of Pennsylvania Avenue with the other.
