New music that will be featured on this season’s “90210” will soon be available on a soundtrack.
“Soundtrack 90210,” which will be released on October 13, 2009, features previously unreleased tracks that will be integrated into upcoming episodes, creating a true representation of the show’s music sensibilities throughout the current season, according to Amazon.com. Executive producer Rebecca Sinclair and music supervisor Scott Vener listened to dozens of tracks before choosing the ones best suited for upcoming storylines, the web site also mentioned.
The eclectic song list, which includes "Valium" by MuteMath and "A Perfect Tourniquet" by Anberlin, sets an edgy vibe for the show’s second season. Other artists featured on the CD include OK Go, N.E.R.D. featuring Santigold, The All American Rejects, The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, and Adele with The Raconteurs. The soundtrack also includes the “90210” Main Title 2009 Remix by John E. Davis.
The original “Beverly Hills, 90210” soundtrack, from 1992, also featured the main title theme, but songs from Paula Abdul, Color Me Badd, Cathy Dennis, Shanice, and Jeremy Jordan gave it more of a pop-music vibe. Other CD releases from the “90210” franchise include “Beverly Hills, 90210: The College Years” and “Beverly Hills, 90210: Songs from the Peach Pit.”
The show, new and old, has always been good at keeping up with the latest music trends; it just changes with the times. For instance, the West Beverly Hills High School prom in 1993 featured guest star Cathy Dennis, while the prom on “90210” in 2008 featured guest stars The Veronicas. Even the CW web site, the network which airs the new “90210,” has a page dedicated to songs featured on the teen drama.
