Main '90210' female character to have lesbian romance (spoiler alert)

Recurring "90210" character, Gia, is expected to have a lesbian romance with one of the show's main female characters: Adrianna Tate-Duncan.

Gia (Rumer Willis), described as a punky lesbian, has played a minor role, so far, as a member of The Blaze newspaper/media center at West Beverly Hills High School. Her character is about to be involved in a major storyline.

Adrianna (Jessica Lowndes), who has dated guys up to this point and is fresh from a break-up with Navid Shirazi (Michael Steger), is expected to have a lesbian relationship with Gia, starting in January episodes, Entertainment Weekly’s The Ausiello Files reported on Thursday.

“This isn’t a fling,” executive producer Rebecca Sinclair said in the Entertainment Weekly report. “We’re coming at this [relationship] from a genuine place and not going, ‘Let’s do a titillating story that will grab some promotion.’ This is a real aspect of teenager life that’s interesting ... And there’s been a real void in the '90210' universe in terms of gay and bisexual characters.”

Another recent report involving the character of Gia is that her ex-girlfriend, Alex (guest star Mandy Musgrave), will want to rekindle their relationship.

Over the summer when it was announced that Willis would play a lesbian on the show, “90210” actress AnnaLynne McCord said she would have loved to have her character, Naomi Clark, share a kiss with Gia.  The honors, however, appear to be going to Lowndes. 

"90210" airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET on the CW network.
