Beverly Hills, 90210 cast (Fox)
The differences between the original “Beverly Hills, 90210,” and its new spinoff, “90210,” have been obvious as the new show follows a new group of teens, airs on a different network, and is backed by an entirely new production team.
For the longtime fans, though, they have brought back characters, locations, and have mentioned things from the past, in sort of a shout-out to the old series. Most of these things have drastically changed, though, and most recently it is the Beverly Hills Beach Club.
“Beverly Hills, 90210”/Then: The Beverly Hills Beach Club was introduced to the original series during summer episodes that aired on Fox. The teens of West Beverly Hills High School and their families spent their summer days hanging out at the beach, some for work and some for pleasure. The Midwestern transplants, known as the Walsh family, considered joining the club, but opted out their first summer in Beverly Hills. Instead, son Brandon Walsh (Jason Priestley) got a job at the club so that he could hang out at the beach over the summer; while daughter, Brenda Walsh (Shannen Doherty), relied on friends to get her into the posh club. And pal Andrea Zuckerman (Gabrielle Carteris), whose family did not live in Beverly Hills, also got a job at the club working with the summer camp.
So everyone who was anyone was at the beach club, but only in the summertime. When fall rolled in, Brandon returned to his job at the Peach Pit and the rest of the gang resumed back to the burger hangout as well.

90210 cast (CW)
"90210”/Now: The Beverly Hills Beach Club made its return in season two of the spinoff series. In the first episode of the season, the teens of West Beverly Hills High School finished up summer school and then headed right to the beach club.
It is an entirely new club than the one used in the original series, but this time the production crew has a good excuse. The club used in the original series, The Sand and Sea Club, closed following earthquake damage in the early 1990s (ImNotAStalker.com is a good source for more details). The pool scenes for the new beach club were filmed at the Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach Resort & Spa, according to 90210Locations.info.
(On a side note, cast member AnnaLynne McCord joked in an interview about the fact that there is a Beverly Hills Beach Club, when Beverly Hills doesn't even touch the ocean.)
More than just the location has changed, though. The beach club has become more of an everyday hangout for the characters. Summer is over, but the teens still head to the club for dates, checking out bands, and coming up next week, the club’s Halloween party. Although it is sunny California and they can resume hanging out at the beach in the fall (some of the guys are on the school’s surf team), this would have never happened on the original series. The Beverly Hills Beach Club was a special summer place.
Maybe if Midwestern transplant Dixon Wilson (Tristan Wilds) got a job at the beach club like Brandon it would help the nostalgia factor? Probably not, considering his job last year at the Peach Pit didn’t really go anywhere (and the Peach Pit location is a whole other story).
The new “90210,” which airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. (ET) on the CW network, is a spin-off of the original “Beverly Hills, 90210,” which aired from 1990-2000 on Fox. Cool comparison. I love how they bring back stuff from the old show. Now they need to bring back Dylan and Brandon : )
I love the beach episodes! Wish they would show the guys surfing more.
The Walshes did end up joining the club during the early season 3 summer eps, when they're trying to keep Brenda and Dylan apart after the Mexico trip.
The Walsh's never joined the club. They looked into it but never did.
I was referring to how the Walshes initially declined to join the club, and that left Brenda having to get in with her friends as it was the cool place to be, etc. They did join that next summer, but that wasn't what I was referring to. I revised the sentence to reflect that. Sorry for any confusion!
