What separates “90210” from other teen dramas is the juicy storylines surrounding the grown-up or parental characters, and the upcoming season should be no different.
Longtime character Kelly Taylor (Jennie Garth) was part of the original “Beverly Hills, 90210,” but she isn’t just a nostalgia factor on the CW's new “90210.” She’s been involved in the big storylines surrounding her half-sister, Erin “Silver” Silver’s (Jessica Stroup) bipolar disorder and even her own love triangle with teacher Ryan Matthews (Ryan Eggold) and Brenda Walsh (Shannen Doherty), who was also a character from the original show. And fans haven’t seen anything yet, as Kelly is rumored to have an affair with Harry Wilson (Rob Estes), the school principal and father to main characters, Annie (Shenae Grimes) and Dixon (Tristan Wilds).
The affair won’t happen soon, but is part of a long-term plan for the storyline, sources told Mickey O’Connor of TVGuide.com.
As for this fall, Kelly (pictured above, right), Harry (pictured above, center) and his wife (pictured above, left), Debbie Wilson (Lori Loughlin), are expected to have amped-up storylines, according to the report. Kelly’s guidance counselor role will reportedly come into play as she is rumored to be the first person to uncover Annie’s alleged hit-and-run in the season finale.
The amped-up, grown-up storylines is good news to longtime Kelly fans, since rumors had been circulating that the show’s executive producer Rebecca Rand Kirshner Sinclair, would move away from the show’s nostalgia.
As for other grown-up characters, teacher Ryan Matthews is also expected to stick around and continue dating bad-girl Jen Clark (Sara Foster), despite rumors that he would be joining the cast of the new “Melrose Place,” also on the CW network. Another parent will be introduced as John Schneider joins the cast this fall as Liam Court's (Matt Lanter) stepfather, and their rocky relationship is expected to bring more drama to the show. And Brenda Walsh and Donna Martin (Tori Spelling), both characters of the original show, are on the table to reprise their roles once again for season two, but have not officially signed on yet, Zap2It.com learned from the show’s producers.
