'90210' recap: season two, episode nine 'A Trip to the Moon'

This week’s “90210” took Silver on “A Trip to the Moon.”

Erin “Silver” Silver (Jessica Stroup) has been caring for her mother, Jackie Taylor (Ann Gillespie), who is battling cancer. The stress of everything led Silver to cancel plans for her annual half-birthday celebration, which she explained to new friend, Teddy Montgomery (Trevor Donovan), she celebrates instead of her birthday because there are less expectations. Over the years, Silver’s mother either forgot her birthday or was drunk, including Silver’s 10th birthday camping party, which was cancelled because Jackie was trashed.

With the help of Teddy (and his father's set-designer friend) and her nurses, Jackie tries to make up for the missed birthdays by throwing a special surprise for Silver. She decorated the house with special birthday-themed rooms: a trip to the moon, complete with stars, a rocket ship, and Tang, to commemorate Silver’s seventh birthday when she wanted to be an astronaut; a 1980s-themed room with arcade games and a hot-pink wig for Silver’s 12th birthday when she was obsessed with the 1980s; and a campout, complete with a tent and smores, for Silver’s 10th birthday party that was cancelled.

Jackie also told Silver that she was planning a barbecue the next day with her friends to officially celebrate her half-birthday, which she never celebrated with her daughter. Silver thanked her mother for finally giving her good memories to hold onto. The celebration was short-lived, however, as when Silver woke up alongside Jackie in the tent the next morning, she was unresponsive. Silver called an ambulance, but it may have been too late for Jackie. We’ll find out her fate next week.

Silver’s friends, Naomi Clark (AnnaLynne McCord) and Adrianna Tate-Duncan (Jessica Lowndes), had planned to give her a half-birthday present. But when Naomi gave Adrianna money to buy a massage gift certificate, Adrianna instead spent the money on drugs. She later told Naomi that she was mugged and that is how she lost the money.

Adrianna, who is obviously back to using drugs, made her purchase from Annie Wilson’s (Shenae Grimes) new boyfriend, Jasper Herman (Zachary Ray Sherman). Adrianna’s ex-boyfriend, Navid Shirazi (Michael Steger), who has been investigating drug use at West Beverly Hills High School for The Blaze, witnessed the sale. He confronted Adrianna about her drug relapse, but she denied it. Jasper also denied, once again, that he is a drug dealer.

Annie had also confronted Jasper last week about being a drug dealer, per Navid and fellow reporter, Gia's (Rumer Willis), suspicions, but Jasper denied it. She made up with him, and this week, told him that she loved him. He returned the sentiment, and they ended up sleeping together. He also arranged a film audition for Annie, but she didn’t get the part.

Annie’s brother, Dixon Wilson (Tristan Wilds), was still upset about his breakup with Sasha (Mekia Cox) and her miscarriage. His mother, Debbie Wilson (Lori Loughlin), revealed to him that Sasha lied and was never pregnant. She was trying to protect her son from Sasha’s lies, but it backfired on her as Dixon is now upset with Debbie.

Dixon, Teddy, and Ivy (Gillian Zinser) got Liam Court (Matt Lanter) to admit what has been bothering him, following a fight with other surfers on the beach. He revealed his problems with Naomi’s sister, Jen Clark (Sara Foster), making up lies about him, including how she tricked him into sleeping with him after prom, and the lies she told to his mother and teacher, Ryan Matthews (Ryan Eggold). The friends told Liam that he is no longer on his own and that they will help him bring down Jen (finally).
